On June 1st, DJR García Shareholder and CEO Deborah J. Rotenberg will be co-presenting with Warren Brodine, President and CEO of Eisner Health, on the topic of “Other Lines of Business: Tips and Tricks for Deciding Whether to Offer OLBs” at the California Primary Care Association (CPCA) Financial Conference for CFOs in San Diego.

This session will explore the legal, business, and clinical issues that FQHCs should consider before adding service as a line of business (“OLB”) by an FQHC. It will focus on the various opportunities that OLBs can bring to both FQHCs and their patient populations, including how they can be utilized to bring badly needed services to the community, permit greater flexibility with respect to charges and fee arrangements, and foster a truly innovative and creative clinic culture. The session will also detail some of the practical considerations and challenges that can present with OLBs, including the requirement to have total operational and financial separation from an FQHC’s HRSA-approved scope of work grant, separate malpractice insurance, and various contracting, billing, and compliance considerations. Speakers will highlight examples of how FQHCs can use the OLB option to provide services including, but not limited to, daycare, cosmetic dentistry, eyeglasses, and abortion.
