Healthcare Transactions Associate

DJR García is a Sacramento-based boutique law firm focusing on health and wellness providers. We are seeking an attorney with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in healthcare law and/or corporate law. Preference is for candidate with experience in provider representation, advising on federally-qualified health center regulations, Medi-Cal reimbursement issues, fraud and abuse, Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, and False Claims Act.  We are also interested in candidates with experience with general nonprofit corporate law, tax-exempt entities, cannabis/other medicinal therapy providers, and broader wellness practitioners.  Any experience with licensed California cannabis operators also favorable. Major law firm experience preferred; in-house experience with major healthcare entity or government experience would be considered. Candidate must have excellent writing skills, high academic credentials, and substantial experience with healthcare or commercial contracts. Candidate must be licensed to practice in California.

Essential Functions

  • Handle incorporation and limited liability company formation from start to finish
  • Support practice group leader in transactions and lead paralegals/support staff in deal support
  • Have extensive experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts with a particular emphasis in physician contracting, health reimbursement contracting, vendor agreements, administrative support service arrangements, and corporate startup agreements
  • Experience working on healthcare transactions, drafting transaction documents, and preparing, filing, and maintaining basic corporate documents for healthcare providers
  • Strong analytical and writing skills required
  • Excellent references and academics a must

Basic Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate and licensed to practice law in California
  • Minimum 3-5 year’s experience practicing law
  • Good standing with the California State Bar
  • Willingness to be cross-trained across broader health and wellness fields

Preferred Qualifications

  • Major law firm experience or in-house experience with healthcare provider
  • Experience in or knowledge of the California cannabis industry
  • Tax or tax-exempt legal analysis a significant plus

Supervisory Responsibility
This position will have no direct reports but will supervise paraprofessional staff on transactions.
